2026 WIDA ACESS
Testing Information

What is the WIDA ACCESS Test?

The WIDA ACCESS test is an annual assessment used to measure the English language proficiency of students who are learning English as an additional language. It evaluates skills in listening, speaking, reading, and writing to show how well students are progressing in English and to help schools plan appropriate instructional support.

When will testing occur?

Elgin High School will test all students who qualify for language services  on January 27th and 29th. Students can look up their testing room location by entering their U-46 School ID# into the dashboard listed below.

Students who still need to take the ACCESS test will do so during the week of February 9th. Students can enter their ID into the dashboard below to find their testing date and location.

What is Assessed on the WIDA ACCESS?

The WIDA ACCESS test measures students’ English language proficiency in four areas: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. It assesses how well students can use English for social and academic purposes across content areas such as language arts, math, science, and social studies.

How is the WIDA ACCESS scored?

WIDA ACCESS scores indicate a student’s level of English language proficiency on a scale from 1.0 (Entering) to 6.0 (Reaching). Students who score below 4.8, the Illinois proficiency benchmark, typically qualify for English language development services, while students who meet or exceed an overall score of 4.8 are considered proficient and no longer eligible for language services.

If you have any further questions about the WIDA ACCESS, or about your student's specific language proficiency scores, reach out to our Assistant Principal of Humanities, Ms. Veronica Ryan.
